kapa haka festival

On Wednesday, on the 20th of November at the Gisborne Showgrounds The Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival took place.

I walked up on to the stage and Hunter started to sing To mai Ra, and then we started singing. After that I could see my mum and then we sung haramai a paoa and then ka pioioi e and then Purianai, then Uitiana.

After Utaina the boys stomped to the front and we did the haka! Hunter shouted the words and then we shouted ouer part. after that haka we did another one, which was my favorite haka. When the Haka was over I had red chests and red arms, because I slapped them so hard. I loved the haka, it was great. I really enjoyed our performance. Kapa Haka has become one of my favorite school events this year.

Marae Noho 2019

Hi everyone! On 12 Thursday, and Friday the 13 (Dun, Dun, Duuun!) the whole of nui went to the Poho-O-Rawiri Marae. When we got there we lined up and took are shoes and hats off (because it is disrespectful in the Marae). After that we were called in to the Marae and the tangata whenua welcomed us, there names were Papa Albie, Auynty buba and Aunty charlotte. They sang there song and then we sang ours.

After the powhiri we had morning tea, then got into our rotation groups (I was in group 4) and started our rotations, so one group would go to a workshop, then a bell would ring and we would move to the next rotation. The rotations lasted half an hour, except for one activity which took up an hour. first up for us was rako sticks and string games, then the Museum came along to teach us about some Maori games. Lunch was really boring because the playing was shorter than the eating time!

After that me and Mac got our sleeping bags ready, but then I realised I forgot to bring my water and pillow! Then we had a bit of free time, then it was time for diner, we had nachos and for desert there was lemonade ice blocks. Next we had to get our beds set up and then have some chill time. At 8:30 my Mum came over to give me my pillow and drink bottle.

I woke up at nearly 4:00 in the morning and had to wait until 6:00 when everyone else had woken up. Then we lined up our bags for later and waited for breakfast, it was spaghetti on toast or wheat bix. After breakfast we packed up the wharenui to welcome the wai syndicate. While we were waiting Aunty Buba taught us us a song called Mama Panda, it's about how the Nannies make the bread for breakfast and dinner. For our first rotation of the day we went on a big walk up Kaiti hill, it was fun but I was super thirsty until we came back and had a big drink of water. Next we had lunch, it was way better than the first day, then we had to pack our bags and get them ready for the buses. In the end, the Marae trip was amazing. I wish we could do it again. Bye!

X Country 2019

CR0SS

C0UNTRY

Hi everyone! Today, on Tuesday the 20th of August 2019, it was the school cross country, and in the morning koka Ngaire said we had to leave to leave to cross country. Then we started the long walk to Pines. when we got to the course the year 6 girls went first, then after their first lap, year 6 boys were called up to go. We lined up, and then... BANG! We were off. At the beginning it was hard to keep up because there was so many people sprinting and pushing each other but then when things settled down and once everybody started trying to keep their places I started to gain more speed.

For most of the time it was hard to catch up with the person in front of me,but I persevered and by the second lap I zipped in front of him. when I went past my friends and family they cheered, that made me go a little bit faster. In the end I was surprised and proud of myself because I came 9th out of all 24 people!

I thought cross country was challenging because there are heaps of fast boys in my year.It was my last cross country and I tried my hardest.
